Insurance Journal reports that JPI Construction and its associated companies have settled with the Justice Department over claims that multifamily housing complexes built by the Texas firm lacked accessibility for people with disabilities. The case involves 210 properties in 26 states and the District of Columbia. Under the terms of the agreement, the firm will pay $10.25 million into a fund to provide retrofits to allow disability access and an additional $250,000 in civil penalties.
