Green Building Code Implemented in Phoenix

Phoenix is looking to be “one of the greenest cities in the nation,” according to Cindy Stotler, the assistant director of Planning and Development Services of the City of Phoenix. She is quoted in an article in Contractor on new green building codes in Phoenix which include certification for new construction and renovation of both commercial and residential projects without additional inspection fees. Michael Hammet, the city’s public information officer predicts that “Phoenix will be a leader in the green building movement with the 2011 adoption of a voluntary Green Construction Code,” adding that it “will take a ‘whole project’ approach to promoting safe and sustainable construction.” The city will be holding workshops and training sessions to educate contractors on the new code.
